With more than 15 years of existence the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, located in the west of Bahia, is one of the most important agribusiness regions in Brasil, where more than 270.000 hectares of soy, maize, cottin and export. It has about has had a population increase of 150%. Every day, new residents arrive in the region, from other parts of Brasil and even from abroad, in search of new opportunities. The great challenge of the municipality is to promote the infrastructure necessary for the local population to follow the progress of the region (www.luiseduardomagalhaes.ba.gov.br).
We began to work in Luís Eduardo Magalhães in January 2016, with the participatory diagnostic process. We limited our operations to the neighborhoods around Galvani’s plant of phosphate-based products. In this territory, the projects developed with the community focus on education, the most pressing topic identified in the diagnosis.
