Project Campo Alegre de Lourdes (BA)

  • Strengthening the Social Network

The Social Network of Angico, Peixe and surroundings continued to develop and improve existing projects, and to discuss and plan new activities in monthly meetings.

Earlier this year, there was another joint effort in the São José Square, this time in order to make improvements to make it even more enjoyable and safer for users. We built a covered stage, renovated benches, tables and toys and installed floodlights. Coordinated by the Lina Galvani Institute and the Social Network of Angico dos Dias, the initiative brought together about 120 volunteers, including residents, partners and volunteers from Galvani and its suppliers. The material help of about 100 local supporters (merchants, individuals and companies) was also very important.

It is rewarding to see everyone's efforts. I am proud to say I was part of it. This union makes the community stronger and encourages us to keep going.

Rodrigo Soares, volunteer at São José square

In August, there was the 1st Social Network Fair of Angico, Peixe and surroundings. Ongoing projects and work groups were presented: Horta Esperança, Flor do Sertão, Doce como o Sertão, Diversão Não tem Idade, Resgate Cultural e Coleta Seletiva. Everything was supported by the Institute, Galvani, MPC, Campo Alegre de Lourdes town hall and the São José church. The fair was organized by members of the Network and attended by about 500 people, including the Secretaries of Education, Communication and Social Work from Campo Alegre de Lourdes. It was by all means a successful strategy to promote engagement and community mobilization.

Honestly, what we're seeing today should be an inspiration to all communities in the state of Bahia. Angico dos Dias is setting the example, and I will take this idea to Caracol, I am certain that a social network can accomplish a lot there.

    Aristides Dias, Caracol resident (Piauí)

The fair was a success! We did not expect so many people to come and see our work. We did it with all our heart. It took a lot of effort, so it feels great to showcase what we did and receive positive feedback from the

Rosa Maria da Rosa da Mata, member of the Horta Esperança group

    KEY FINDINGS
The Social Network takes place in different places and times, it is a living organism that thrives in community interaction. Ideas for new initiatives emerge outside formal meetings and gain strength, posing an exciting challenge in terms of dissemination and communication.

  • Social and productive inclusion

The second cycle of the Social Productive Inclusion Project took place in June 2015, aiming to generate additional income for the participants, after having achieved an average 30% increase in the participants' income since the first cycle. In this new stage, the main topics are the collaboration between groups and the development of collective capabilities. Moreover, we have been following a rich schedule of activities, including: production and purchasing processes, sales and management skills, action plan development and technical visits in all groups.

During the 1st Social Network Fair, clusters like Doce Como o Sertão and Flor do Sertão marketed their produce, with good results. Additionally, these clusters are already marketing their products in other sales channels in their own town and the neighboring towns of Caracol (Piauí) and Remanso (Bahia).

We intend to include more activities that bring together all stakeholders, because we realized that activities like this allow the exchange of very interesting knowledge and the group's growth as a whole.

Sérgio Kuroda, Community Development Manager at the LGI.

    KEY FINDINGS
Not only should we promote the economic growth of these clusters, we must also strengthen them as groups. The results can reverberate in the community, encouraging the population and inspiring change.

  • Strengthening the public administration

The Lina Galvani believes the government should play a fundamental role in developing a territory. Therefore, in cooperation with the Agenda Pública organization, we started a project to empower the local administration in the town of Campo Alegre de Lourdes. Within this project, the following activities were carried out:

    1. 1) Assessment of the town's healthcare, education and social work systems, highlighting key aspects for the management of each of these areas.
    2. 2) Workshops on how to interpret indicators, validate diagnoses with local players and set priorities to guide fundraising: Sanitation, Policies for Women, Employment and Income Generation, Infrastructure, Sports, and Culture.
    3. 3) Creation of a Project Management Department, composed of managers and civil servants, to enhance the town's ability to formulate and manage projects and agreements properly.
    4. 4) Formalizing the Project Management Department by decree.
    5. 5) Training for the Project Management Department, with three courses, namely: Project Development and Management, Procurement and Bids, and the Siconv Workshop.

There were 50 hours of training, directly involving 20 people, including managers and civil servants.

It is a fundamental initiative to further qualify the public management in CAL. The search for resources and the proper management of these resources are important for any municipality. Knowledge about project management and the rules governing agreements and procurement is key.

    Cassiele Moraes, Agenda Pública

It is an achievement because it formalizes the work of the Lina Galvani Institute and Agenda Pública and demonstrates that the town is engaged as a partner in a project to strengthen the management and training of their own staff, with actions and learnings that end up benefiting the entire community.

Sergio Kuroda, Community Development Manager at the Institute.

    KEY FINDINGS
We all tend to expect a lot from the government, but as we approach these official bodies, we often perceive a fragile and difficult management structure. One of the challenges is to strengthen the links between the players, turning mutual pressure into a sense of collaboration and dialogue.

    NEXT STEPS
Continued partnership to: Consolidate the Project Management Department, implement on-site management and map our social capital.

  • Educommunication workshop with teachers in public schools

In August, we had a workshop with teachers, where they could learn more about the Educommunication methodology, which proposes the construction of communicative ecosystems between participants and collaborative content production using available technological resources and developing some products: the Unidos pela Educação radio show and the Aprendendo com a Delma book.
The initiative aims to spark interest in teachers and, consequently, students, so that they recognize themselves as community communication agents. As a continuation of the workshops, participants developed other radio shows and books for their students.

    KEY FINDINGS
Educommunication processes need to be well aligned with community development projects so that they are not isolated. They should be put into practice in the community's everyday life, contributing to communicate the Social Network and its activities.
